Story.

Think of your life as a story.
Actually, you already do.

FMRI studies show us that following a story,
a narrative with a beginning, middle, and end causes our brains to release cortisol and oxytoxin.
These chemicals give us the uniquely human ability to connect with someone, even a total stranger, and empathize.

In other words, stories are what we use to find meanings in our lives.

Now,
imagine for a moment that we lived without the understanding that our story must eventually end.
What if our lives were as infinite as the universe, as if the ticking clock never stopped?
What would our story be then?
Would we...still love?
Or care?

Would those tiny, fleeting moments that mean everything,
mean anything at all?

Arrow 2x19 The Man Under the Hood.

Quentin berada di dalam penjara disebabkan kesalahan 'bersekongkol dengan orang yang bertindak melewati undang-undang'. Laurel melawat Quentin di penjara berharapkan ayahnya itu memberitahu identiti sebenar The Arrow dan The Canary kerana satu-satunya cara Quentin untuk bebas dari penjara ialah dengan berbuat sedemikian. Tapi Quentin memberitahu bahawa dia tidak tahu identiti sebenar mereka.

Kemudian, seorang banduan yang berdendam dengan Quentin dan The Arrow kerana mereka yang menyebabkan dia dipenjarakan telah pecah masuk ke sel tahanan Quentin dan memukulnya. Quentin dikejarkan ke hospital penjara akibat kecederaan.

Dalam masa yang sama, Laurel sudah tahu identiti sebenar The Arrow dan The Canary.

Perbualan ini berlaku semasa Laurel melawat ayahnya di hospital penjara;

Laurel:
I know who The Arrow is.

Quentin:
What? Don't say another word. Don't say anything. Ok. Listen to me. There was a time when I would have sold out my badge to find his name. You know that. But then I realize I didn't care who he was. In fact, I didn't even want to know who he was.

Laurel:
Why not?

Quentin:
'Cause I knew if I knew who he really was, then he'd become a person, right? Maybe he's got a family. Friends. People that care about him. Someone with a life. That he couldn't be what I needed him to be. What this city needs him to be. It's The Arrow that matters. The man under the hood isn't important.

Look at me.

Can you imagine what it's like to be him? What he has to live with day in and day out, what that's got to be like. Hey. The least I can do is sit here and do a little bit of time for him.

Rosé.

Rosé murmured,
"What am I supposed to cling to from now on?!"

Ed then firmly answered,
"Decide that for yourself.
